What it is
Most focus playlists are arousal in disguise.
Bass-heavy drops, fast tempo, building dynamics, they feel productive for an hour and deplete you by lunch. Focus Work goes the other way. Steady tempo, minimal dynamic surprise, harmonic motion that supports cognitive load instead of pulling focus.
Best used in 90-minute deep work blocks. On at the start, off at the end. Between blocks: silence, water, ten minutes outside.
Focus that depletes you isn't focus. It's pre-burnout in costume.
What's included
How to use it.
- Save to your Spotify
- Use in 90-minute blocks of knowledge work
- Strict on-off boundary, music ends, block ends
- Same time of day, same chair, same playlist (conditioning is the point)
Each session is customized to the client. This is the outline.
Best for
Right fit if…
- Knowledge work, writing, coding, designing, analyzing
- You're recovering from a burnout chapter
- You alternate between hyperfocus and crash and want the middle ground
- You want sound but most playlists overstimulate
Less ideal if: you want high-energy workout music, Focus Work is steady on purpose. For high-energy, keep a separate playlist.
